Portable classrooms set on fire -- Los Altos, CA

An arson fire at Loyola Elementary School in Los Altos caused about $10,000 worth of damage to two portable classrooms Sunday night, authorities said.

The fire at the school, 770 Berry Ave., was reported about 11:40 p.m.

"It was a minor fire," said Jeremy Davis, a Santa Clara County arson investigator. "It affected two of the trailers. The wood siding has to be replaced, but most of it's smoke damage inside."

Someone lit the contents of a plastic recycling bin — possibly paper — and pushed it against the side of the building where the two classrooms meet, Davis said. A wood bench nearby was also set on fire.

Davis said the blaze was "definitely an arson fire." The county fire department is investigating but does not have any suspects, he said.
