Police are investigating a fire that was set in a 1999 Ford Expedition in the 2200 block of East Laurel Street early Wednesday.
The fire was reported about 12:10 a.m. Witnesses said a vehicle drove north about the time the fire broke out.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze and arson investigators were summoned.
The people who live on the property told police they didn’t know what the vehicle was doing there or who it belonged to. However, the registered owner walked up to police and confirmed the SUV was his. He said the vehicle had been parked all day and he had no idea why someone would set fire to it.
Upon investigation, police determined an amplifier, four speakers in a wooden box and a stereo were missing from inside the vehicle.
