Apple store smash n' grab -- Gilbert, AZ

Two young men smashed through the plate-glass door of an Apple Store on Tuesday and took nearly $10,000 in merchandise, police said.

Apple Stores experienced heavy traffic during the weekend, and the company said Monday it sold more than 1.7 million units of its new iPhone in the first three days, making it the most successful product launch in their history. The new iPad is also a hot ticket item for hi-tech lovers.

The men used large rocks to smash through the glass door of the SanTan Village shopping center on Williams Road about 3 a.m., police said, causing $30,000 in damage.

The break-in, which triggered the alarm system, was caught on surveillance video. Police are investigating.
