Legit art heist -- New London, CT

Detectives are investigating the theft of five pieces of art with a total value of more than $10,000.

The theft was reported by a local art collector on Feb. 1. The paintings were from his personal collection, Deputy Chief Marshall Segar said.

Police did not identify the art collector or say where the paintings were stolen from.

The collector did not know when the paintings were stolen, Segar said.

The paintings, some dating back to the 16th century, are by various artists and are either pastels or oils.
