Anti-Christmas hooliganism -- Cuero, TX

Christmas will be a bit darker this year after vandals destroyed nearly $150,000 worth of lighted scenes in Cuero's annual Christmas in the Park Saturday night.

"It was pretty devastating to us," said Kay Lewis, president of the Cuero Development Corporation December Events Committee. "We all stood out there and cried because that's our baby."

Early-morning golfers discovered the vandalized scenes Sunday in the Cuero Municipal Park. A 30-foot lighted steel steamboat fixture was contorted; a 37-foot steel American flag fixture was submerged in nearby Cuero Lake; and a separate fixture, Sally the Sea Serpent, was in pieces. Her tail and a center piece were also found in the lake.
